Bad Foods Comfort Bad Moods

According to Statistics Canada, more than 1 in 4 Canadians described their day-to-day lives as highly stressful (2010).  This feeling has caused many of us to find comfort by eating the foods we love.  Unfortunately, more often than not we turn to the fatty and sugary foods that are oh so bad for us.

The foods we eat to feel better in fact leave us feeling more angry and depressed. The key to improving one’s mood is to stay away from the carb crashing and sugar spiking processed foods we find in the pantry.  Sugary desserts, fried foods, and chemically infused sodas will only make us feel worse.  That’s right, worse!

To ward off fatigue and boost our energy our bodies need foods rich in iron, vitamin B6, omega-3, calcium and protein.  One of the best nutrients to boost mood is selenium; also known to ward off anxiety and contain many antioxidant properties.

Our fresh breads are made with sprouted ancient grains that contain many mood enhancing nutrients that help us maintain a well-balanced and healthy diet. Our NEW varieties including Spelt Chia & Poppy Seed, Organic Ezekiel with Chia and Sunflower, and Organic Country White with Semolina and Quinoa contain a source of selenium, zinc, magnesium, vitamin B6, iron, calcium, protein and fibre!

We also sprout our own grains, pods, and legumes making them true superfoods! The Adzuki bean, Mung bean, Lentil and Brown Rice are jam-packed with nutrition and antioxidants. These varieties contain high amounts of zinc, magnesium, vitamin B6, iron, calcium, protein and fibre. The Adzuki bean and Brown Rice also contain high amounts of vitamin B6.

The most important thing is to be proactive! Try to incorporate foods rich in antioxidants, calcium, protein and fibre into your daily routine.  And stay away from foods that with bad fats, high sodium and refined carbs that will only bring your mood into a deeper depression.  Nobody wants to have lunch with cranky pants!
