A Parasite-Free Life

Parasites are microorganisms that live anywhere and can affect anyone – they are simply all around us and cannot be avoided. A parasitic infection is caused when these parasites live on or in the human body and begin taking our nutrients to use as its own.

Parasites can enter the body numerous ways from simply walking barefoot, eating unhealthy foods, and even drinking water. That said, this does not mean we are all subject to parasitic infections. We can easily prevent any form of parasitic infection by keeping our immune systems and gut function clean and healthy. See some tips below;

  1. Probiotics – Did you know that 80% of the human immune system is located in our gut? Probiotics are good bacteria that work to ensure our gut flora remains healthy in turn keeping our digestive systems running smoothly. Grab a handful of our ShaSha Snap Cookies or Gluten Free Buckwheat Snacks the next time you need your probiotic fix.
  2. Fibre – Eating a healthy, whole food diet is a great way to consume the proper intake of fibre that our bodies need to keep our insides clean. Chia, fruits and vegetables are good sources of soluble and insoluble fibre. At ShaSha we produce a Spelt Chia & Poppy Seed Bread that is high in fibre and perfect to enjoy first thing for breakfast in the morning.
  3. Black Walnut Hull – This herb has the ability to remove damaging organisms in the intestinal tract all the while improving digestive functions. Paying a visit to your local health food store and inquiring about Black Walnut Hull will prove beneficial.
  4. Digestive Enzymes – This form of enzyme helps to rebuild and restore your intestinal tract. Their main function is to break down and take away waste from the body. Fruits and vegetables are two foods that carry some of the highest amounts of digestive enzymes.

Consuming foods that are high in sugar, high in dairy, processed, or made with artificial sweeteners contribute to your immune system and make you more susceptible to parasitic infections. On the other hand, living a healthy, active lifestyle and eating organic foods, raw fruits and vegetables and getting sufficient sleep and exercise are all ways to prevent these infections from attacking the body.
